Visas for Remote Workers & Digital Nomads
The biggest barrier to relocation isn't cost or culture — it's legal permission to be there. A growing number of countries now offer dedicated visas for remote workers, freelancers, and digital nomads.

Not all digital nomad visas are equal. Some require proof of €4,500/month income, others have no minimum at all. Tax treatment varies wildly — from 0% in the UAE to standard local rates in Estonia. Here's every program we track, sorted by minimum income requirement.

What is a Digital Nomad Visa?
A digital nomad visa (DNV) is a residence permit that lets you live in a country while working remotely for a foreign employer or your own foreign-registered company. Unlike tourist visas (typically 90 days), DNVs last 1-5 years and often come with tax advantages since you're not employed locally.
The key requirements are usually: proof of minimum income (from €684/mo in Colombia to $80,000/yr in Thailand), health insurance, a clean criminal record, and proof of remote employment or freelance activity.
Tax treatment matters more than visa cost. A €180 Portuguese D8 visa with the NHR regime (20% flat tax) could save you tens of thousands compared to a €30 Czech trade license with 15% tax — depending on your income level. Use our salary calculator to compare net income across countries.
